Can You Automate Pepperstone with TradingView? MT5 & cTrader Setup (2026)

Benjamin F., Co-founder11 min read

Yes, you can automate a TradingView strategy on a Pepperstone MT5 or cTrader account by sending the strategy's alerts to PineHook. Pepperstone offers MT5 and cTrader with automated trading support, while PineHook routes each alert to the platform assigned to its license.

Pepperstone also connects eligible accounts to TradingView through the Trading Panel, but that route is for orders placed in the panel. Pepperstone's UK account guide says direct TradingView access is available only on Razor CFD accounts; eligibility can differ by entity. TradingView does not send Pine strategy orders automatically to connected brokerage accounts. PineHook uses a separate route: TradingView sends the strategy alert to PineHook's webhook, and PineHook executes it on Pepperstone through MT5 or cTrader.

Pepperstone platform, account, and pricing details verified against the linked official sources on September 19, 2026. Products, platforms, pricing, symbols, and eligibility can vary by entity, account, and country.

How Pepperstone automation works#

Automation follows four steps:

  1. A Pine strategy creates an order message inside a TradingView alert. TradingView documents these messages in its strategy alert guide.
  2. TradingView sends the message to PineHook's webhook URL. The Creating alerts guide provides the URL and message format.
  3. The license key or Copier ID identifies the Pepperstone account and platform.
  4. PineHook executes through the MetaTrader 5 EA or an authorized cTrader account, then records the command and result in Signal Logs.

The command format is the same for both platforms. The platform assigned to the license decides whether the alert goes to Pepperstone MT5 or cTrader.

Connect Pepperstone to PineHook#

Start with Choose a platform in PineHook's Platform setup documentation, then follow the guide for the platform assigned to the Pepperstone account.

Connect Pepperstone MT5#

  1. Open a Pepperstone account with MT5 as its platform. Pepperstone says Standard and Razor accounts can use MT5.
  2. Download MT5 and sign in with the Pepperstone account number, password, and assigned server.
  3. Follow Connect MetaTrader 5 to install the PineHook EA. One chart is enough, as long as algorithmic trading is on.
  4. Create an MT5 license in PineHook and copy its key into the EA inputs.
  5. Add the PineHook webhook URL and a supported command to the TradingView alert.

The Pepperstone credentials remain in MT5, while PineHook reads the license key from the EA. Keep the terminal, EA, and internet connection active while alerts need to execute. Connect MetaTrader 5 documents each of these requirements.

Connect Pepperstone cTrader#

  1. Sign in to the cTrader ID that contains the intended Pepperstone account. Pepperstone says all Pepperstone accounts linked to that cTrader ID appear after login.
  2. Create a cTrader license in PineHook and approve the connection on cTrader's authorization page.
  3. Return to PineHook, select the exact Pepperstone account, and finish creating the license.
  4. Add the new license key to the TradingView alert.

Connect cTrader explains that cTrader reads its PineHook settings from the dashboard, so there is no EA to install and the desktop application does not need to remain open. Revoking the authorization stops future PineHook execution, while positions already open at Pepperstone remain in the account.

Include the entity, platform, account type, and purpose in the license name when the Pepperstone client area contains several accounts.

Verify the symbol and lot size before testing an alert#

Open the instrument in MT5 Market Watch or cTrader and compare its name with the TradingView ticker. Pepperstone publishes examples such as EURUSD.r for a retail CFD market and EURUSD_SB for a spread betting market, but the suffix depends on the account and entity. Check the current Pepperstone symbol explanation and use symbol mapping when the TradingView ticker differs from the destination symbol.

Then compare the strategy quantity with the lot size expected by that instrument. Pepperstone says trade sizes vary by instrument and commonly start at 0.01 lots. Read the minimum, maximum, volume step, contract size, stop distance, and session in the destination platform before choosing a conversion factor. If TradingView reports units or contracts, configure lot size conversion before testing.

Pepperstone publishes an instrument trading-hours schedule in server time and updates it for holidays. Use the schedule to check the normal session, then confirm the live session and specification in the account because Pepperstone can change hours around holidays and seasonal clock changes.

Symbol mapping changes the instrument sent to Pepperstone. Lot size conversion changes the quantity. For a forex account where one standard lot is 100,000 base-currency units, a TradingView quantity of 100000 units needs a conversion factor of 0.00001 to produce 1.00 lot. Pepperstone's MT5 order guide uses 100,000 units for one standard forex lot, and PineHook's lot size conversion guide explains where that factor applies.

Do not carry that forex factor over to gold, indices, shares, or crypto. Pepperstone says trade sizes depend on the instrument and its lot characteristics. Read the specification in the Pepperstone platform that will receive the alert.

Test a TradingView alert#

Pepperstone describes its Standard and Razor CFD accounts as suitable for hedging, and its MT5 overview lists position hedging support. When the destination account uses hedging, one strategy can hold several positions in the same symbol. Each position can have its own stop-loss and take-profit levels, including its own multi-level TP and SL schedule.

The magic= parameter groups the strategy's positions, while a unique ticket= identifies one position inside that group. Reuse a ticket in a later modify or close command to manage only that position. The other positions keep their own stops and targets. A PineHook ticket is separate from Pepperstone's order and position numbers.

Tickets work only on hedging accounts. Netting accounts combine each symbol into one position and reject ticket parameters. Check Hedging and netting accounts before adding a ticket.

Use this 0.01-lot EURUSD command to test a Pepperstone hedging account after confirming that 0.01 is valid for the account's EURUSD symbol:

YOUR_LICENSE_KEY,buy,EURUSD,size_lots=0.01,magic=1001,ticket=eur-long-001,sl_pips=50,tp_pips=100

The Creating alerts guide provides the webhook URL and message format. The Default Mode reference defines size_lots, sl_pips, and tp_pips. When the alert fires, confirm in MT5 or cTrader that the symbol, side, volume, stop loss, and take profit match the command. Then compare the accepted command with the execution result in Signal Logs.

Match the strategy costs to the account#

Pepperstone uses different pricing for Standard and Razor accounts. Its account comparison says Standard pricing includes the trading fee in the spread and charges no separate commission on most markets. Razor uses raw-spread pricing plus a commission on forex and spot gold. The same page also says TradingView is available only for Razor CFD accounts in the UK entity, while MT5 and cTrader are available for Standard and Razor accounts.

Rates vary by entity, platform, market, and account currency. As a current UK example, Pepperstone's account page lists Razor forex spreads from 0.0 pips and commissions from £2.25 per lot per side. Confirm the rate shown for your own entity, platform, and account rather than copying those figures into every strategy.

Record the spread during the hours the strategy trades. Enter that spread, the account's commission, and a realistic slippage allowance in TradingView's broker emulator. Pepperstone also applies overnight funding to spot positions held past 5 p.m. New York time, so include that cost when the strategy holds through rollover.

Configure risk controls for the account#

Set account limits before the strategy trades at its normal size. PineHook's risk-management controls apply independently of the TradingView script. Use them to stop new entries at the account's loss limit and to reject alerts outside the strategy's session, spread, or news rules.

PineHook controlHow it works and why it helps
Daily loss limitMeasures the day's loss from the higher of balance or equity at the UTC reset. Use it to stop one poor session from consuming the account's wider risk budget. End of Day drawdown mode already provides a daily guard.
Overall drawdown limitWatches equity against a longer-term floor. Static protects a fixed starting level, while trailing modes and Relative can protect gains as the account grows. Use it to catch a decline that develops across several days.
Active trading sessionsAllows new entries only during chosen UTC hours while exits and management remain available. Use it to keep the strategy inside the sessions and liquidity conditions it was tested on. The optional cutoff can flatten positions and remove pending orders.
Maximum spreadRefuses a new entry when the live spread exceeds a pip or percentage ceiling. Use it to avoid an abnormal entry cost during rollover or thin markets. It cannot lock the final fill price.
News filterHolds new entries around selected economic releases. Close and cancel commands remain available during the window.

The risk-management reference explains what PineHook can do when a drawdown limit is breached: stop new entries, close open positions, or close them and keep further trading blocked. Place the threshold inside the maximum acceptable loss because a market exit can fill beyond the trigger.

These controls do not replace broker margin. Pepperstone says margin depends on the instrument, leverage, trade size, and account currency. Note the margin used by the minimum-size test and leave room for wider spreads and the other positions that the strategy may open.

Use the news calendar before volatile sessions#

PineHook's News Filter can hold new strategy entries around selected economic releases. Set the before-and-after window globally or as a per-license override for the Pepperstone account. The News Filter settings explain how the override inherits or replaces the global values.

Select the Pepperstone license in the News Calendar to preview the releases covered by its saved window.

During the configured window, PineHook holds matching new entries. Close and cancel commands still run, while stop and target changes are held only when that option is enabled. Maximum-spread protection can add another cost check when entries resume.

Copy one strategy to Pepperstone and other brokers#

A PineHook Trade Copier sends one TradingView alert to several licenses. Its destinations can mix Pepperstone MT5, Pepperstone cTrader, other Pepperstone accounts, and accounts at completely different brokers. The strategy does not need a separate alert for each account.

Each license receives the alert with its own size multiplier. The screenshot below shows the same three trades on three licenses at 0.5x, 1x, and 2x. PineHook applies the multiplier to fixed lots and volume calculated from risk, as documented in the Trade Copier reference.

Check the live contract size, minimum volume, and volume step on every destination before setting its multiplier. Pepperstone says trade-size limits differ by instrument, and another broker may use a different contract for the same market name.

Frequently asked questions#

Does Pepperstone support both MT5 and cTrader?

Yes. Pepperstone lists MT5 and cTrader among its supported platforms, although availability can vary by entity and account.

Can Pepperstone's TradingView connection automate a Pine strategy?

No. Pepperstone's TradingView login flow connects an eligible account through the Trading Panel. TradingView says Pine strategies cannot trade automatically through a connected brokerage account. PineHook uses strategy alerts and a separate MT5 or cTrader execution connection.

Must MT5 or cTrader stay open?

The MT5 route needs the PineHook EA running in the terminal, as described in Connect MetaTrader 5. Connect cTrader uses an authorized account connection, so the cTrader application does not need to remain open.

Does PineHook need my Pepperstone password?

No. MT5 credentials remain in the terminal, as described in Connect MetaTrader 5. The cTrader route uses cTrader's authorization page, as described in Connect cTrader.

Can one Pepperstone strategy hold several positions in the same symbol?

Yes, when the destination is a hedging account. Pepperstone describes its Standard and Razor CFD accounts as suitable for hedging. Give each PineHook position a unique ticket= when the strategy must modify or close it independently.

Can one alert reach Pepperstone MT5, cTrader, and another broker?

Yes. Add each license to a PineHook Trade Copier, set its multiplier, and send the alert to the Copier ID.

Create a PineHook account without payment details, or compare this setup with the other broker and prop firm guides.
