News Calendar
See the week's economic releases and which of them your News Filter will hold entries around.
Video walkthrough coming soon.
The News Calendar shows the economic releases scheduled for the week ahead, and, once you pick a license, which of them your News Filter will hold entries around. Signal Logs tells you an alert was held once it has already happened, marked Blocked: News Filter with the release that caused it. This page tells you the same thing in advance, while you can still do something about it.
Find it in the dashboard sidebar under News Calendar.
Reading the table#
The page groups releases by UTC day. Each day header names the weekday and date, tags today and tomorrow, and counts what is in it: total releases, how many are high impact, and, with a license selected, how many your filter would hold.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Time | The release time in UTC. A ~ after the time means the source published an all-day or tentative slot instead of an appointment, so treat it as approximate. |
| Impact | High (red), Medium (amber), or Low (grey). |
| Currency | The currency the release belongs to, such as USD or EUR. |
| Release | The event name as published upstream. |
| Category | Which of the nine PineHook categories the release falls into, which is what the filter's category exclusions act on. |
| Your filter | Only shown when a license is selected. Entries held means this release opens a window your filter will refuse new entries in. |
Four releases at the same minute share one time label, because they are one moment rather than four. Releases that have already fired appear dimmed, and a green Now marker sits between what has printed and what is still ahead.
Everything on this page is UTC
The times, the day grouping, and the Now marker are all UTC, because that is the clock the EA measures its news windows in. A 23:30 UTC release therefore sits under its UTC day here even if your own evening has already rolled over to the next date.
Checking your own filter against it#
The Evaluate against dropdown turns a generic calendar into an answer about your account. Pick a license and the Your filter column fills in, evaluated against that license's effective settings: your Global EA Settings with any per-license overrides applied on top.
The counter beside the dropdown reads N of M would hold entries, which is the quickest way to sanity-check a change. Widen your window from 30 minutes to 60 and the number goes up, while excluding the Sentiment category brings it back down.
A release shows Entries held when all of these are true:
- The News Filter is on for that license.
- The release is high impact, or it is medium impact and you ticked Also hold around medium-impact releases.
- Its category is not one you excluded.
- It is not on that license's ignored-events list.
Low-impact releases never hold anything, whatever else you configure. They stay hidden until you tick Show low-impact releases, which puts them on screen without changing a single verdict.
In MetaTrader mode, the dashboard settings do nothing
If the selected license's EA runs in MetaTrader settings mode, the page says so in an amber banner, and you should treat the Your filter column as unreliable for that license.
In that mode the EA reads its News Filter from its own Inputs tab in MetaTrader, under the News Filter (MetaTrader mode) group, and ignores everything you saved on the dashboard. Ticking Hold new entries around high-impact news in your Global EA Settings changes nothing in the terminal, so a release can read Entries held here and trade normally on your account. You have to set Enable News Filter, the minutes before and after, and the rest of the group in MT5 itself.
Two ways out. Either configure the filter in the EA's Inputs and accept that this column reflects your dashboard values rather than the ones running, or switch the EA's Settings Source input to Dashboard, at which point the terminal starts obeying what you save here and the two agree.
What the filter holds, and what it never holds#
The column reads Entries held rather than Blocked on purpose. Inside a news window:
- Entries are held. The EA refuses buy and sell alerts for the length of the window.
- Closes and cancels always run. A rule about volatility should never stop you leaving a position.
- Stop and target changes are held only if you asked for that. The Also hold stop and target changes option extends the window to
modify, breakevenandtrailcommands, and pauses the EA's own trailing and breakeven passes. It is off by default. See Licenses for what it covers.
This page ignores symbol scope on purpose. A release is marked held whenever it would hold something, even if you narrowed the filter to a named symbol list, because reporting "clear" on the strength of one excluded instrument would be a lie about all the others.
When the table is empty#
The calendar source publishes the current week only, so the page thins out towards the weekend and refills when the next week is posted. That is expected, not a fault. If the table is empty, no news window is open and the filter is holding nothing.
PineHook refreshes the schedule from the source every two hours and pushes the same data to every connected EA, so what you see here is what your terminal is working from.
Next Steps#
- News Filter settings covers the windows, impact levels, symbol scope, and category exclusions.
- Licenses is where you turn the filter on, globally or per license.
- Signal Logs is where a held alert shows up after the fact.
